Nashmeya Al-Faili

Nashmeya Al-Faili is a remarkable mother to Muzna, who was born with the rare Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. She has faced numerous health and psychological challenges, having shouldered the responsibility of caring for Muzna alone. The birth shock she experienced while being alone in Arizona was overwhelming, yet her deep love for her daughter drove her to fight and ensure that Muzna lives without pain. Muzna’s medical challenges include digestive issues such as vomiting for ten years, epilepsy, bleeding, hypothyroidism, kidney function impairment, and spinal curvature. Despite being non-verbal due to intellectual disability, Muzna fills their lives with joy and happiness. The presence of social support and family love helped Nashmeya overcome psychological setbacks and disappointments. Education and Training: Nashmeya holds a diploma in special education and has attended numerous courses in psychological support, behavioral challenges, sensory issues, and educational strategies for people of determination. Voluntary Work and Research Contributions:Volunteering has been the cornerstone of Nashmeya’s achievements, refining her talents in a practical and fast-paced manner. She has provided consultations to families and conducted research on: • Accessible travel planning for people of determination. • Preventive measures for having a healthy child. • Addressing social issues such as bullying against people of determination. • Coping strategies for overcoming birth trauma. Awards and Recognitions:Nashmeya has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to community service, including: • The Emirates Rare Disease Society. • Iqraa & Istaamta’ Center. • The German International Academy. • Al-Istad Art Gallery. • Friends of the Environment Society. Creative Contributions:Specializing in writing stories about people of determination, Nashmeya translates their struggles into awareness messages. She also uses art as a form of therapy and self-expression to reflect her daughter’s psychological and medical condition. Her creative works include art pieces made from recycled medication packages, transforming them into powerful visual representations of her daughter’s journey. Nashmeya continues to be an advocate for families of people of determination, aiming to provide awareness, support, and inspiration through her stories, artistic works, and voluntary initiatives.
