Prof. Dr. Michael Liebrenz graduated from Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, completed his residency at the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich, and pursued a fellowship at Columbia University, New York. Board-certified in psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and addictions psychiatry, he served as Assistant Professor (2016–2021) before becoming a Tenured Extraordinary Professor of Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Bern in 2021. Appointed by the Federal Council as President of the Swiss Commission for Quality in Medical Assessments, he advises the Federal Assembly, Swiss cantonal courts, and the Council of Europe. With over 150 publications, including in The Lancet, his research focuses on forensic, geo-, and sports psychiatry. Currently, he is tasked by the Special Interest Group of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) to establish the International Institute of Geopsychiatry in Switzerland, advancing global mental health research and practice.
